ABOUT THE PROJECT
SHE_SEES is a project led by Lloyd’s Register Foundation, which aims to showcase female involvement in the industry over the centuries. A key theme of the project is diversity, equality, and inclusion. By ensuring that forgotten voices are heard, stories generated by the project can highlight the many opportunities presented by a maritime career. The contemporary component of SHE_SEES is led by portrait photographer Emilie Sandy and textile artist Erna Janine. Their approach is to present stories of current women through a conceptual and visual approach –– ‘Storytelling Through Textiles And Portrait Photography’.
SHOOT #1
ROLE: Fisher, Willow Pot Maker, and, a Fishing Regulatory and Welfare Advisor
Janine + I headed down to Brixham to photograph Sarah Ready for SHE_SEES. We were incredibly fortunate to be blessed with amazing weather! We fell in love with her willow lobster pots! Check out her amazing sustainable contribution to the fishing industry here.
As well as an active fisher and a prolific lobster and crab willow pot maker, Sarah, and her husband are innovating new ways of fishing through electric fishing boats and a zero-plastic potting system. Sarah is also experienced in a fishing regulatory and welfare advisory role, spearheading the Law Works pro bono clinic which assists the fishing industry with free legal advice.
